A home safe has become a necessity for homeowners. It keeps money, financial and personal records, and other valuables safe. It can also keep dangerous things like guns, knives and hazardous chemicals away from children.
If you have gotten yourself a safe for your homes, you may wonder though where the best place is to keep it.
There are different factors you would need to consider when looking for a place to keep your safe. You just can’t buy one from the store and put it anywhere in the house.
You would need to think of the primary purpose of keeping the safe, you need to consider the size of the safe, and also put into account the type of door that your safe has.
All these things you would need to know before you will be able to make an informed decision and be able to find the perfect place for your safe.
Purpose of the safe
Is your safe used to store important documents that you will need to access from time to time? Is your safe used to store firearms? Is it used to hide things that can be harmful to your child?
You would need to ask these questions to be able to assess where a good place will be for your safe.
If you are using your safe to keep your guns, then consider putting your safe in a place that is not open for people to see. You wouldn’t want your safe to be the first thing a burglar sees when they break into your house. You can put your safe in your basement.
If you use your safe to keep things away from your child, then of course your safe shouldn’t be in a place that is easily accessible, keep it hidden in a corner or a storage room where nobody frequents.

Size of your safe
You would also need to consider its size. In fact the size of your safe should be the first thing you should consider when buying a safe. Why would you buy a very big safe if you have no room in your house to place this?
When you are just shopping for safes for your home, you must already have an idea where it will fit. This way you don’t risk buying something that you wouldn’t be able to use because it just won’t fit anywhere in your house.
Smaller safes can practically be placed anywhere in the house as you can just about move it easily anywhere. A bigger safe may only be placed in a spare room that has not too much stuff already there. Of course, it should fit the dimensions of the room.

One thing that is also an important factor that you would need to consider in deciding for a place to keep your safe is the type of door it has. There are different types of safes with different type doors.
This might be something that will not enter your mind when you are just buying the safe, but will surely boggle your mind when you are at the actual process of finding a place for it.
The most common type of safe has internal hinges that open at a 90 degree angle. There are other safes though that have external hinges and they open at a 180 degree angle.
Naturally if you would want to be able to use the external hinges of your safe and open it all the way, you would need to place this somewhere there are no other appliances or furniture nearby. There mustn’t be anything that will block the door’s path.
Tips to remember
Safes are where you keep your valuables. These mustn’t be openly displayed for visitors to see. It is best to keep it hidden from plain view as to avoid giving them the temptation to pick inside it.
Good places where you can hide your safes are under the floor of a closet where you can cover it with a rug or into a dug in area of your wall where you can cover it with a painting.
If you are just placing your safe on the floor, it may be good to anchor it to prevent it from being easily transferred and taken away.
